Don’t Let Them Fool You

By Admin | In Exercise and Nutrition Tips and Advice | on September 30, 2014

On a recent trip to the supermarket I decided to take a few photos so I could talk about how big companies try to fool the customer into believing their product is healthier for them than others, but actually it is a load of rubbish.

This first photograph highlights this point exactly:

Look at this ‘Healthy Living’ chicken Sandwich compared to a madras chicken sandwich.  The healthy living sandwich touts itself as being healthy because it is only ‘315’ calories.  Firstly for what it is that is quite a lot of empty calories really.  Plus, look carefully, the saturated fat, sugar and salt (all the bad things) are all higher in the ‘healthy living’ sandwich.  Don’t be fooled.

Next: Who has seen this new Coca Cola and thought “wow, amazing”.  Why?:

For me I would just look at the ingredients and stay away from it. The second ingredient, which means it is the ingredient with the second highest quantity within the drink, is SUGAR.  So it is basically sugar and water with colouring.  Why would you drink that?  Would you pour yourself a small glass of water (220ml) and add 13 grams of sugar to it and drink it?  Its crazy.  This is not Coca Cola Life – it is Coca Cola Death.

Staying On The Drink Theme: Do you drink these Vitamin Water Drinks:

Again just look at the ingredients.  The 2nd and 3rd ingredients are fructose and sugar respectively.  You know what that means now don’t you.  This is again just sugar and water, with a tiny amount of added vitamins.  Eat fruit and vegetables if you want to get some vitamins and minerals inside you.

Lastly:  Weight watchers: Chocolate Brownies:  I wonder how many points this is – if you don’t eat for the rest of the day maybe you can get these in your points allowance – thats healthy right?  NO!!!!:

It has 21 grams of sugar per dessert.  I don’t care if it only has 167 calories per dessert, none of those calories are nutritious.

There you go a little insight into the world of me getting annoyed whilst shopping.  Please don’t get fooled by big money makers with their fancy packaging and ‘healthy’ slogans.  They are paid lots of money to fool you into buying their products.  Don’t be that fool.  Eat natural foods – if it doesn’t have a mother, or you can’t grow it, don’t eat it.
